In Memoriam...  Harold Williams "Carly" Harmon, LR29998... March 9, 2008

Mr. Harold Williams "Carly" Harmon, Capt. U.S. Navy Ret., 80, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Harmon was born in Lexington, S.C., a son of the late George Lee Harmon Sr. and Catherine Ann Harmon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert T. Byrne officiating. Entombment will follow at Southlawn Mausoleum with full military honors.

He had been a resident of Aiken since 1957 and was employed as an engineer with E.I. DuPont at SRS. He served in the Navy during WWII and Korea and retired as a U.S. Naval captain. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Korean Chapter 255, Naval Reserve Officers Association, Korean War Veterans Association, VFW and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Retha Black Harmon; two daughters, Melinda Gay Harmon of Charleston and Cindy (Ted) Groomes of Aiken; one son, Michael W. Harmon of Aiken; one grandchild, Sela McGee Groomes; one sister, Betty Harmon Powell of Lexington; and one brother, George Lee Harmon Jr. of Lexington.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Harold Harmon Memorial Fund, 961 Trailridge Rd, Aiken, SC 29803.

Captain Harold Harmon was a dedicated American Warrior and a great gentleman. His efforts on behalf of his fellow veterans and Korean Americans will endure so long as granite endures and sight to read remains among our citizens.

We have lost an exemplary leader and friend.
