In just a few hours now we will observe the 57th Anniversary of the start of the Korea War. I am in SEOUL for the various activities involved in the great anniversary observances here where it all began.

Elsewhere on the website you will see the press release and news concerning the campaign for a Federal Charter. May this be the year.

On this 57th Anniversary many of us are reflecting on lost friends and their sacrifices—and we may sincerely ask ourselves “was it worth it?”

We have the second of this year’s Return Visits over here this week. On Friday I accompanied them to a college commemoration service about an hour away from SEOUL.

As we entered the packed assembly 7000 students were cheering and continued to do so most of the next hour+ as the program progressed (see the accompanying picture). Then 7,000 students rose as one and sang the Korean National Anthem under the US and Korean flags hanging from the ceiling.

Just 45 minutes away countless other Korean children are starving, do not go to school, lack clothing, toys—in short, lack a life and have very little to sing about. Was it worth it? YOU BET IT WAS!

Thank you all for your sacrifices for the sake of FREEDOM. GOD bless our two Republics—the Republic of Korea and the USA—and help us to complete, together, the job started fifty-seven years ago—when 1.7 million of us began to defend a country we never knew and a people we never met, an effort that has been continued by over three million men and women, the holders of the Korean Defense Service Medal, 1955 until today.

National President, KWVA/USA
